Hello my flower loving friends, I have news- We will be having our first flower stall of the year this Saturday at Find in Ampthill with The Makers Market by Ampthill Alchemist, gosh what a long sentence! Lilly and I have been cutting beautiful blossom and selecting the best spring bulbs that you can take home to create something lovely in your home or garden. We will have seasonal jam jars as always, these do tend to go quick so I’d get down early to avoid disappointment. I’m afraid I cant reserve them so it is a first come basis. Really hope to see you there! We will be springing up in various places this year so stay tuned in for dates and venues.
On garden news- wasn’t last weekend glorious. Mr C and I spent all weekend in the garden and enjoyed our first glass of wine in the sun, before the wine there was much seed sowing and lawn mowing. I spent some time preparing the cutting beds and raking the compost so it looked lovely, then Bella our last remaining chicken went in every single one and flicked the earth about and made a mess, just as well nothing was planted. So far I’ve got cosmos, sweet peas, statice, helichrysum, scabious and kale seedlings. There’s still more to sow and I also want to add more perennials. I’m planning on having a couple of beds for dried stuff alone this year and two new beds for roses.
Today I finally got around to planting my anemone corms, I’m so late with these, I usually do them in September- that’s how late I am, fingers crossed, should be fine. I haven’t decided on dates yet for flower and coffee mornings but I hope to have them in the diary by the end of the month. I’d left my dahlias in over winter so I lifted them at the weekend as I want to move them to a bigger bed. Luckily they’re in good condition and are quite big so I will get a lot of new tubers once divided, I think I only lost one. I’ll be starting them off on a tray of compost soon so I can take cuttings. I do this every year and it’s a great way of getting more for your money- just one tuber can make at least three cuttings so that’s four plants in total. I have a post on how to do it, I’ll see if I can find it for you.
Although winter is back temporarily I am extremely busy, hence no newsletter last week. I’m hopeful that normal coffee shop writing/musings will continue in a couple of weeks though.
Happy gardening.
