Hello, I love this time of year for it’s when all my favourite flowers are in bloom. Despite not having my cutting garden up and ready yet I’m still able to cut enough flowers from the garden so as not to leave a bare patch. This week it’s been all about the foxgloves and I’ve been chomping at the bit all week long to do something with them, it’s just been so wet. However today the sun came out and I’d already got this vintage jug in mind so I’ve been in my element for the past couple of hours- snipping, arranging, photographing and editing pictures. My Friday flowers this week are a combination of naturalised foxgloves of which this year there are many! Growing around them is this clematis which I inherited with the house so unfortunately I don’t know its name but it goes well together. The little rose is called Pauls Himalayan Musk and it smells divine! There’s also some ground elder flowers in there too as my cow parsley has just gone over.
I love to have flowers trailing down the sides, I can’t stand it when everything stands up tall, it looks so odd.
The foxgloves are the star of the show but the dainty rose and ground elder help soften the spires.
I take a lot of leaves off as they sometimes oversaturate an arrangement at this time of year, I’ll leave a few on and I don’t mind if they’re a little eaten as I like the imperfectness they bring.
To me- flower arranging feels and looks best when it’s wildly informal and appears how it would in the flower beds. There is something rather magical in untamed florals.
I’m always on the hunt for beautiful vintage vessels and styling props, I love visiting flea markets and brocantes and I’ll often buy the cheaper chipped pieces or the pieces with hairline cracks so long as they are above the water level, I’ve got some beautiful bargains this way. This vase has a surface crack but as a potter I knew it would be ok and I picked it up for £12 from a vintage shop.
My next and last Tales From A Farmer/Florist is out Sunday and that brings us up to date with the now. After this I’ll be posting on how the new cutting garden is developing, plus my vintage arrangements will continue. I’m thinking of doing this every Friday- Friday Flowers. If you enjoy my posts and they resonate or leave you feeling uplifted then please share them with like minded friends.
Have a lovely bank holiday weekend.
