Glorious Shabby Roses From The Garden & Shop Update
Beautiful ceramics inspired by the seasons.
Hello my flower loving friends, I’ve been picking shabby garden roses that are tatty and going over, petals falling off them as I gather them into a vase, I think I like them best like this. June is the month of Roses. Actually, I just love the garden in June, there is so much going on, so much change and a constant edit - like painting a picture but the canvas is the garden. The foxgloves have just about finished so I’ve been pulling a lot out, leaving a few for seeds. If they are on their last legs with a few flowers still attached I put them in big vases around the garden so the bees can still enjoy them. I’m dead heading roses constantly and spending lots of time with my nose buried in them, appreciating their scent and fleeting beauty. I’ve been planting my sweet peas and helichrysums in my new raised beds, there’s still lots of cosmos and scabious to go in too.
My aim is to open the garden for very quiet creative time. Not a retreat really, those things seem to cost too much money and want yoga or cold water swimming. No no, not what I’m after at all. I want to offer the experience of relaxing in a garden with just a few people, picking flowers and drinking tea, there will be homemade cake of course. And maybe doing a little watercolour sketch or simply making a wreath or little hand tied arrangement. A time to bring back a sense of calm, unwind and connect with the senses, nothing fancy- just simple and honest. I can see progress. It’s slow and steady so hopefully I will have more news for you on that front soon!
My garden influences my designs as a potter and artist and I have just launched a new botanical collection on my website along with a few select vintage pieces too.
My wild flower carved mugs are perfect for gardeners. Tough porcelain delicately carved with wild flowers and stained in green. These are dishwasher safe too.
The black clay anemone vase is lovely on its own or with dried flowers. This design was inspired by the masses of anemones that grow outside my studio all summer.
Flowers play a huge part of my creative process. Clay lends itself beautifully to floral designs.
There’s a lot more on my website, I’ll pop the link below so you can have a look. Right now the sun has just burst through the cloud so I need to find some shade, shame as I’m enjoying our new garden chairs, oh well- mustn’t grumble.
