Hello my flower loving friends, a photo heavy post full of what I hope will uplift and inspire you to create something lovely in the month of November. With Halloween firmly behind us (thank god, I can’t stand the pumpkin massacre, I know I know, miserable woman) and the nights inevitably taking up more time than they should, why we have to still change the clocks I don’t know. It’s time to bring in a bit of cheer and I’m not quite there for Christmas yet as I still have dahlias flowering, however I am rather partial to a bit of candle and moss styling at this time of the year. Last weekend I spent a few hours in the garden with the fire pit going, gathering moss and leaves from the lawn to make something simple and beautiful. On my table I started with this little crate candle arrangement, you can buy similar from garden trading or simply use terracotta pots. I filled these with earth to hold the candle and topped with damp moss. It’s so easy and so cheerful to look at.
Taking things one step further- I used an old seed tray base as the base to this arrangement and re-used the terracotta pots. I simply lined the pots up on the tray and covered it with moss allowing it to spill over the sides. As I’ve still dahlias flowering I dotted a few on top. Again, so easy and so effective. Candlelight is my must have for winter! Shown below is one of my porcelain ring dishes which I’ve used as a candle holder by dripping some wax to the surface which in turn secures the candle. I have a couple of these available on my website, they make cute stocking fillers too. I’ll pop the link at the bottom if you want to have a look.
The garden is in a lovely mellow state as autumn continues to grip on. The greenhouse is proving a lovely place to sit and work and I’m looking forward to sowing seeds and potting on next spring but for now it serves well as a warm place to spend a couple of hours tinkering about. I hope this week is going easy on you. Wishing you a cosy evening.
