Hello my flower loving friends,
August tends to be quite hectic if I let it, I think it’s due to the summer holidays and even though my children are now young adults I still feel a rush of six weeks, it’s funny how that’s never left me. Spending time arranging my garden flowers and picking fruit and vegetables always grounds me in the now. Preserving flowers or food bring calm and order. In the pic above I’m stripping leaves off helichrysum flowers to prepare them for hanging upside down for drying- these will be used later in my bouquets or for workshops.
A simple arrangement of dahlias- the act of flower arranging is a peaceful one, especially when you’ve grown the flowers yourself. Here- dahlia cafe au lait, night silence and sweet pea Cathy make for a calming mix.
Griddled courgettes in a bath of olive oil, herbs, garlic and seasoning will keep in the fridge for a week and are lovely smashed onto toasted sourdough.
August was a pretty month but September is my favourite! It always has a feeling of melancholy about it which I quite like. If August was a frenetic wasp gate crashing a cream tea then September is the gentle bumblebee drifting to flower after flower. It’s a soothing month as nature offers up wonderful harvests, the light dips and sets everything in a sepia mood. The saturation seeping out of what was the verdant greens- I find it all rather relaxing and satisfying. The dahlias are now blooming in abundance and I’m starting to turn my attention to sowing some seeds and planting my anemones. I must order the tulips too. But first let’s have a cup of tea and a stroll around the garden.
If you enjoy my pictures and seasonal ramblings then please feel free to share it with like-minded friends.
