Vintage inspiration from the garden
Hello my fellow garden lovers, how are you? It’s a glorious sunny day in my part of the uk. I’m in my shop in Hitchin until 4pm today (Saturday) and I’ve been enjoying a faff with flowers and plants. The shop is in a beautiful location opposite the church, the bells are ringing out as I type and it’s a relaxing place to be. I love to get here early so I can settle in before I open, sit at my desk with a coffee and write to you.
Today I’m taking you back to my old garden at Chapel Road where we lived for ten years. It’s Victorian and wrapped around the house which I loved, it was easy to create lots of nooks and layer up furniture with plants for different textures. I don’t think much of it is left anymore as the new owners built a huge extension. I’m glad we had the opportunity to enjoy it and garden there for as long as we did, we had started to outgrow it- hence the move to where we are now. Oh but it was oh so charming and I will be happy to go back to this size again one day. I don’t want to ramble on as it’s the weekend, but I wanted to leave you with some vintage garden inspiration for the weekend. So here are just some of my photos of that garden.
Annuals are mixed in with perennials- filling the gaps. Old iron and worn wood create a lovely backdrop and give the garden its vintage vibe. It’s what I’m striving for again in our new garden, I say new, it’s been three years but it still feels new, I think it’s because it was a blank canvas- like a football pitch when we bought it.
If you’ve followed my garden journey for a while then you’ll know I have a black steel greenhouse which we built a couple of years ago now, I do love it but for the vintage feel I prefer wood, partly because it’s easier to hang nice brackets for old shelves and hooks to hang things. If you’re thinking of putting a greenhouse in this year then you might want to consider that. Anyhoo, I hope you’ve gleaned some inspiration for your own garden. I’m going to get to work now. Enjoy your weekend. Don’t forget you can follow me on Instagram here, to see my garden and shop.

What a charming garden 🪴and so beautifully captured in the photos. There’s something incredibly peaceful and thoughtful about the way everything comes together, from the textures and colours to the quiet atmosphere it creates. You can really feel the love and care behind it all ✨xxx
That’s a very beautiful garden
